Loqman Zainal

Loqman Zainal (b. 1995, Melaka, Malaysia) is a painter whose work explores the psychological and emotional dimensions of interior space. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from UiTM Shah Alam in 2018 and currently lives and works in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Loqman’s practice centres on the domestic—rooms, furnishings, and spatial arrangements—as quiet extensions of the human condition. His paintings often omit the figure, instead suggesting presence through atmosphere, colour, and the subtle staging of everyday objects. The interiors he paints draw directly from personal reference points—his family home in Melaka and his current space in Shah Alam—reflecting the evolving texture of the contemporary Malay household. These are not romanticised or historically fixed interiors, but lived-in spaces marked by cultural hybridity, memory, and modern aspiration.

By observing how people inhabit and personalise space, Loqman captures a reality that is layered and specific: a mash-up of design cues, emotional attachment, and spatial improvisation. His colour palette—fusing pop vibrancy with pastel calm—heightens this interplay, creating paintings that feel both familiar and emotionally heightened.

Loqman has exhibited in group shows with Galeri Puteh, Taksu, and Core Design Gallery, and was featured in Art Moments Jakarta (2022). His work contributes to a growing regional interest in spatial narrative and the emotional architectures of everyday life.
