Art KL 2026

15 - 18 October 2026
Overview
A Place Where (APW), Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Galeri Sasha presents new works by Arash Jabbar and Ong Pei Yee, two emerging Malaysian artists whose practices are grounded in close observation of everyday life. Across their paintings, ordinary gestures, familiar spaces, and fleeting moments are brought into focus, revealing the emotional and relational significance of experiences that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

As part of ART KL’s Discovery section, Galeri Sasha will also present Wong Perng Fey’s large-scale steel sculpture, First impulse (Erster Impuls), installed outdoors. Constructed in steel, the work explores the instant before movement begins — the first physical or intuitive impulse that sets the body into motion. Through weight, balance, tension, and spatial form, Perng Fey examines the relationship between stillness and movement, spontaneity and control. Presented at an architectural scale and in an outdoor setting, the sculpture extends these ideas into the viewer’s physical experience of the work and the space around it.

Press release

Galeri Sasha is pleased to announce our participation in ART KL 2026, taking place at A Place Where (APW), Bangsar, from 15–18 October 2026.

Arash Jabbar’s paintings begin with photographs that would typically be overlooked: blurred images, accidental compositions, awkward crops, and moments captured without intention. Rather than correcting these imperfections, Arash preserves them, using expressive brushwork, loose scratches, and shifting perspectives to retain the spontaneity of the original image. Often depicting people close to him, the works function as a visual journal in which memory, affection, and gratitude are held within seemingly incidental moments. What appears casual or imperfect becomes a way of acknowledging the people and experiences that shape his life.

Ong Pei Yee’s paintings similarly turn toward the everyday, focusing on small gestures of care, assistance, and connection that often disappear within the repetition of daily routine. In her recent works, layered white lines move across intimate scenes, representing the repetitive actions and habits that structure everyday life. These marks partially obscure the moments beneath them, reflecting how routine can dull our awareness of the relationships and acts of care that quietly sustain us. Through this tension between concealment and recognition, Pei Yee asks viewers to reconsider what we notice, remember, and value within ordinary experience.
